THE TEAM

 

     I grew up in Delaware, the youngest of three boys. I always liked numbers in school, was good at math, and was interested in business. A competitive ski racer in high school, I was attracted to Colorado for the skiing; I applied to and was accepted at the University of Denver (DU). I decided to major in accounting, knowing that if you understand accounting, you can understand business. Once I got to DU, rather than pursuing ski racing, I earned my pilot’s license, bicycling 12 miles each way from campus to the Arapahoe County Airport and back several times a week for flight training.

 

     Eventually, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting), a Master of Science in Business, and, some years later, a Master of Taxation, all from DU. I stopped skiing and flying planes and became fascinated with business, finance, taxation, and international trade.

 

     After stints as a Tax Analyst at Marathon Oil Corporation, Tax Supervisor at Coopers & Lybrand Consulting, and Tax Senior at Price Waterhouse Management Consultants, I opened my business as a Certified Public Accountant in 1982. I work with individuals, estates, trusts, corporations, and nonprofits in a wide variety of fields. Between the continually changing tax laws and the interesting situations my different clients present (part-time work in Angola, Singapore-sourced income, researching historical stock prices, depreciating oil wells, to name just a few) I can truly say it’s never boring.

 

     I started going to Mexico in 1993, prior to NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement), and over the next four years went approximately 15 times, developing business contacts and learning about trade with Mexico. I also worked with the local chapter of the US Mexico Chamber of Commerce and taught courses on doing business in Mexico.

 

     I continue to study to keep current on changes in the field and have also had the opportunity to teach numerous classes at DU as an adjunct faculty member. Courses delivered include Doing Business in Latin America, International Marketing, Strategic Global Marketing Using the Internet (Graduate School); Management of Technology,  Telecommunications (University College); Electronic Commerce (Women’s College), and Marketing Management (Undergraduate).

 

     My wife Teri is a Senior Trust and Fiduciary Specialist. We live in Denver near Capitol Hill with Charlie, our Australian Silky Terrorist (Terrier).

     

     My hobbies include photography, reading, and travel.
